Yearly Plans Nightingales Children’s Project, 2024:
If you would like to know what Nightingales has planned for 2024, please read the following document and keep up with the progress here and also through our social media posts on Facebook and Instagram.
Differently abled adults: (6 differently abled adults, 4 in fulltime care and 2 in social living).
- To continue for them to be able to attend the activities at the High School daily. Supporting financially and practically where it is needed.
- Weekly life skills activities with volunteers.
- 4/5 trips a year to various locations in Romania.
- A possible chance of an exchange with Stand International Scotland.
Needs:
- New furniture for their bedrooms.
- Renovation of living space.
- A holiday for the 6 young people.
- Solar panels to reduce costs over the years.
Girls at risk of being trafficked:
- All 9 girls to pass their classes.
- Employing another girl at least at the coffee shop.
- A reduced number of days missed by the girls at school.
- A family session for the girls and their families.
- 6 afternoons away doing various activities in the county of Constanta.
- A daily meal for all the girls attending the sessions, not just soup.
- All girls to be able to come on the summer camp.
Needs:
- An interactive white board for their homework and education sessions.
- Small prizes and incentives for the girls throughout the school year.
- A laptop where they can play interactive education games from sites such as Twinkl and EduBoom.
- A meal a day for 9 girls.
- 6 outings a year for the girls to help with the mentoring part of the scheme.
- ÂŁ150 for each of the girls for a summer camp.
Boys Literacy Club:
- All 6 boys to pass their year at school.
- A meal a day for 6 boys.
- Start a mentoring group with the to answer a need to their lack of life skills.
- Weekly sports activities for the boys, football, unihockey, basketball.
- All boys to be able to come on the summer camp.
Needs:
- Sports equipment for the sessions.
- A meal a day for the 6 boys.
- ÂŁ150 for each of the boys for a summer camp.
Combined goals for the boys and girls:
- A prize giving event for the boys and girls, with a party so they can be proud of their achievements. As at school they are not doing well enough academically to receive a prize at school.
Football Team – mentoring of young men:
- Better connection to life skills programme.
- A leadership course for the boys over the age of 16, to help them discover their talents and how they achieve their potential.
- 90% of the boys passing their school year.
- A reduction in the abandoning of school.
Need:
- €5000 for paying the league fees for the games.
- A new minibus for transporting the 150 young people to their games.
- Football equipment for training.
- A summer camp for the youngest members of the football programme, to help keep them engaged during the summer.
Rasova – A outward bound camp for young children:
- To partially open the camp for at least 20 young people during the summer of 2024.
- To set up water sports activities for the young people, training instructors etc.
- To finish the toilet block, which reuses the shower and sink water to flush the toilets.
- To finish the accreditation of the site.
Need:
- A 4 by 4 vehicle for taking equipment to the river.
- Canoes, sit on kayaks, paddles, life vests and wetsuit boots.
- 3 caravans to complete the number needed for 20 young people to stay.
- Solar powered water heaters for the toilet block.
Dragon’s Den – A social enterprise coffee shop for the community of Cernavoda:
- To improve the children’s play area.
- To run parenting courses and for parents to help mentor other disadvantaged parents.
- To renovate the outside park area of the coffee shop.
- To employ at least another girl; from the girls at risk project.
- To increase the services and facilities we offer for children’s birthday parties, to help increase revenue.
- To have over 100 children a day attending the Nightingales summer camps.
Need:
- A new bouncy castle.
- New park equipment.
- Re-lay the outside decking area.
